After working as MuJER’s Jewelry-Making Instructor for one year, Paola became a full-time staff member with MuJER in 2010. Paola, a Guatemalan native, was born in San Antonio Suchitepequez and went to work as a housekeeper in Guatemala City when she was ten. In 2004, she began working as a sex worker at La Linea. Two years later, Paola enrolled in MuJER’s elementary school program at our community center, where she also took computer and beauty school classes. Through MuJER, Paolare received her sixth grade diploma. MuJER gave her a scholarship to study jewelry-making, a craft she greatly enjoys, and continues to teach jewelry-making with MuJER and to organize MuJER’s jewelry sales. Paola studied nursing and is now in junior high, and looks forward to receiving her high school diploma. Paola has an eleven-year old son and is very proud to be a mother.
