Welcome to MuJER
Annual Fundraiser

Dear Friends and Family,

We know many people take time during the holiday season to make donations to charity, so in the spirit of holiday gift giving, we would like to ask you to consider MuJER as one of the beneficiaries of your end of the year donations.

When we started, MuJER was just one literacy program in the red light district in Guatemala City, but today MuJER works with 500+ women throughout the country: in multiple red light districts in Guatemala City, in the interior, and along the border with Mexico. Your contribution can help us continue MuJER's efforts and expand its reach, and unlike other non-profits that you hear from, where much of the money is spent to support more fund-raising, 100% of your donation will go towards directly supporting the work that MuJER does.  We spend no money on fund-raising, relying instead on our network of supporters and the occasional grant to pay for our staff and operations in Guatemala.  And since MuJER is a Non Profit (5013c) Organization, your donation is tax deductible.

Among the many services and successes we have had these last few years:

  • Established a Community Empowerment Center, with classroom space
  • Offering semester-long educational and vocational courses
  • Providing anti-violence and self-esteem workshops
  • Providing “Mommy and Me” Reading Workshops
  • Engaged in efforts to reform legislation which has victimized, rather than assisted, the women served by MuJER.

These past successes would not have been possible if it weren't for your support. With your help, we can continue to help transform the lives of women in Guatemala through our FREE programs which include accelerated elementary school classes (grades 1-6) and vocational classes (computer classes, cosmetology school, basic English, and embroidery). We also have a hand-made jewelry business to provide a source of alternative income for women sex workers. Furthermore, we have subsequently hired these women to teach classes at the Empowerment Center. Due to high demand and our limited resources, we currently have a waiting list for our vocational classes. But, with your help, we hope to expand our capacity to meet the demand.

Please browse our website to learn more about our programs and how you can become more involved in support of our cause. You can donate through our website, or you can mail a check, payable to MuJER, to:
